The Reed of God
by Caryll
Houselander
A spiritual
classic, this book written with poetic imagery and inspiring, biblical- based meditations,
depicts the human side of Mary, the Mother of God, as an empty reed waiting for
God’s music to be played through her – or as a vessel bearing Christ for the
world, so that we also might be Christ-bearers.
The author
reminds us that Mary said “yes” to God for all of us – as it is His will that
Christ be born in every human life, not through the extraordinary, but through
ordinary daily life and the human love that people give to one another.
Caryll
Houselander, born in England in 1901, was connected with an English Catholic
community of writers during the 1940’s. Her style of writing integrated the
intellectual, mystical, and artistic, yet was completely “Christocentric”.
The St. Olaf Book Club meets monthly at the parish, in the Fleming Foyer. The books cover a variety of topics, and all are invited!
