Liturgical ministries at St. Olaf offer YOU an opportunity to:
- Witness your faith,
- Meet people in the community,
- Pray and serve with other ministers, and
- Deepen your experience of the Eucharist.
Choose a liturgical ministry that is right for YOU — weekends or weekdays, behind the scenes or public, occasional or regular — there is a liturgical ministry for everyone.
Training and mentoring are provided for all liturgical ministries at St. Olaf. New ministers are ALWAYS NEEDED AND WELCOME. Contact Virginia Stillwell, Director of Worship, at vstillwell@SaintOlaf.org.
Greeters and ushers welcome all who walk through our doors, receive the collection, and provide assistance as needed. Many out of town guests join us at St. Olaf’s. Greeters enjoy helping them feel comfortable and hearing their stories.
Extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist have the great privilege of distributing Holy Communion during Mass. There is no special requirement for serving the Eucharist, except to be a fully participating Catholic and complete training at St. Olaf.
Sanctuary ministers carry candles or other items in procession and assist the priest at the altar. The reverence and grace of our sanctuary ministers in performing their tasks enhances the beauty of liturgies at St. Olaf.
Sacristans prepare the sanctuary for Mass, coordinate with the various liturgical ministers, and clean the vessels after Mass. These experienced ministers play a crucial role in ensuring that our liturgies are smooth and prayerful.
Lectors proclaim the scriptures and lead the Prayers of the Faithful. Lectors need both the gift of a strong speaking voice and time to dedicate to preparing the scriptures. A lector trainer meets with potential lectors to help them gain confidence for this ministry.
Liturgical environment ministers meet approximately 6 times each year to create the seasonal decorations throughout the buildings. Both artistic people and hard workers are needed for this rewarding and fun behind the scenes ministry.
Liturgical support ministries help make sure that everything is ready when needed for liturgies and devotions. These ministries include laundering linens, refreshing votive candles and holy water fonts, cleaning, caring for plants, and other invisible ministries.
Singers and instrumentalists are welcome. Our music ministry offers opportunities in a variety of musical styles and levels of experience and involvement. To learn more, contact Joel Anderson at janderson@SaintOlaf.org.
