THE ADVENT OF THE HUMAN PERSON- GENESIS CHAPTERS
1 AND 2 THROUGH EYES OF THE CHURCH FATHERS
We will delve into Genesis chapters 1-2 during this presentation. We will observe the friendship of the Trinity and the many creatures of the visible universe, all of which have something to tell us about our own tremendous destiny. We will be guided by examining how the early Church Fathers read and prayed with God’s creation. We will explore some of the following questions - What did the Church have to say about the 6 days of creation? God’s resting on the 7th? Of the goodness of the natural world and its purpose? The creation of Adam and Eve? Our state of original happiness and innocence? The naming of the animals and our dominion over creation? How do we account for the discrepancies between the creation narratives in chapters 1 & 2? Isn’t the biblical narrative of the creation simply an allegorical tale for what scientific evidence has already disproven? (Hint: it’s only in the last 200 years that science began contradicting what had always been taught by the Church regarding the Genesis account). Particular attention is given to the manifestation of God’s goodness in the perfections of creatures.
Join us for this understanding of God and us after the 12:00Noon Mass until 1:00pm on the Wednesdays in December 4th, 11th, 18th. Led by Fr. Wehmann.
